Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Alberta RV Guide ("I", "this site") collects and how it's used. The site is operated from Alberta, Canada, and aims to follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) where they apply.
Information this site collects
- Browsing: The site has no user accounts. The web host may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and performance.
- Email list and free handbook: If you sign up for the free handbook, your email address is collected as described below.
- Contact: If you email me, I'll use your message only to reply.
Email list and the free handbook
When you sign up to download the free Alberta RV Troubleshooting Handbook, this site stores:
- your email address,
- the date and time you signed up,
- the exact consent wording you agreed to ("Yes, send me the free handbook and occasional RV tips from Alberta RV Guide. Unsubscribe anytime."),
- the page you signed up from, and
- how many times the download link was used, and
- which seasonal reminder emails were sent to you and when (a send log, so nobody gets the same email twice).
Your IP address isn't stored with your signup. To stop automated abuse, a short-lived one-way hash of your connection is used for rate limiting, and it's deleted within a day.
Why: to deliver the handbook and to send the RV tips you agreed to receive: about one seasonal reminder a month, timed for Alberta weather, plus occasional new-guide updates. Emails are sent from this site's own web host (no outside email marketing service), from info@albertarvguide.ca. Under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), I only email people who have given express consent, using an unticked box you choose to tick. Every email identifies Alberta RV Guide, includes a mailing address and contact information, and has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribe requests are processed promptly, and always within the 10 business days CASL allows.
Where and how long: signups are stored in a private database on this site's web host, outside the public website folder, and are only accessible to me. They aren't sold, rented or shared with anyone. If an email service provider is used in the future to send messages, this policy will name it. If you unsubscribe, you won't receive further emails. I keep a minimal record of your consent and unsubscribe date as proof of compliance, unless you ask me to delete it entirely.
Your choices: unsubscribe anytime from the link in any email or at albertarvguide.ca/unsubscribe/. Under PIPEDA you can ask to see, correct or delete your information by emailing info@albertarvguide.ca.
Affiliate links and cookies
Alberta RV Guide is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program (Amazon.ca), an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.ca. When you click an Amazon link on this site, Amazon may place a cookie in your browser to track the referral, so that a purchase you make can be credited to this site. I don't receive your name, address or payment information. Amazon's handling of your data is governed by the Amazon.ca Privacy Notice.
Visit statistics (first-party, cookie-less)
To see which guides are useful, this site keeps its own simple visit statistics on its own web server. No third-party analytics service is used, and no cookies or similar identifiers are stored in your browser.
- What is recorded: the date, the page you viewed, and the domain of the site that linked you here (for example, google.com), not the full referring address.
- Unique visitor counts: your IP address and browser user-agent are combined with a random value that changes every day and turned into a one-way hash. Only the hash is stored. The daily random value is deleted, so hashes can't be linked across days or turned back into your IP address. Raw IP addresses are never stored.
- Do Not Track: if your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, no visit is recorded.
- Access: the statistics are private, password-protected and used only to improve the site. They're never sold or shared.
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies won't stop the guides from working.
Your rights
You can ask what personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it by writing to the address on the contact page.
Changes
