Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park
An island park with old-growth boreal forest on Lac la Biche.
About Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park
Big Island and Long Island are linked to shore by a causeway, with trails through old-growth forest and some of the best birdwatching in the province. Other islands in the park are reached only by boat.
A brief history
The park was established on September 29, 1952 as Big Island Provincial Park, and was renamed in 1962 to honour Sir Winston Churchill. The islands had been proposed as a bird sanctuary as early as 1920.
